AN ASSESSMENT OF THE REVOLUTIONARY WAR
The major long term cause of the Nicaraguan Revolution was the creation of the United-States controlled and trained Guardia Nacional, who continued to employ brutal tactics of repression on the Nicaraguan population. The short term even which sparked a consolidation of rebellion forces, was the assassination of the vocal liberal journalist, Joaquin Chamorro. The political corruption of the Somoza family, which allowed the continued abuse of the population, had the largest impact on the start of the serious revolutionary war. This war was driven by youth of Nicaragua who were ready to take action against the oppressive government and instigate a liberal system, they established the official rebel group, the FSLN. The rebel groups socialist beliefs allowed for the unintentional progression of women's rights.
The war was concluded just days after the withdrawal of U.S. Support for the Somoza dynasty. The repercussion of the overhaul of government system was economic instability at the entrance of another war with residual conservative forces.
